Experience:
Major General (Ret.) Geoffrey
C. Lambert entered the U.S. Army as a Private in
1969. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army’s Infantry,
Ranger, and Special Forces courses. Through numerous
and repetitive assignments in Special Forces and the
75th
Ranger Regiment he became well versed in strategic,
operational and doctrinal implications of
counter-insurgency (COIN), counter-terror,
occupation, information, and unconventional warfare
operations. His forte was planning. He co-authored
the successful counterinsurgency plan that was
implemented in El Salvador. He was the J3 of the
Task Force that wrote the Panama invasion plan,
obtaining approval from US Southern Command and
passing the plan over to the Joint Special
Operations Command for refinement. He planned and
conducted numerous strategic raids for NATO,
executed several Non-Combatant Evacuation
Operations, and was in command of US Army Special
Forces (aka “Green Berets”) on 9/11, subsequently
providing the forces for the core of the invasion of
Afghanistan, three Task Forces for the invasion of
Iraq, the central unit for Operation Enduring
Freedom – Philippines (OEF-P), and then ongoing
operations in Colombia. He was one of many
contributors to the new U.S. Army and U.S. Marine
Corps counter-insurgency manual, FM 3-24.
Current Activity:
In 2010, Major General Lambert made several trips to
Afghanistan, serving as the ranking military member
of a team investigating the impact of military
operations on civilian casualties. Findings were
well received by then Generals McChrystal and
Petraeus. In 2011, he conducted a similar study for
US Special Operations Command, capturing lessons
learned from Operation Enduring Freedom –
Philippines, comparing and contrasting the
differences between the relatively unfettered direct
warfare in Iraq and Afghanistan and the nuanced,
indirect approach required for OEF-P. A struggling
author, Geoff has written one novel, The
Singleton: Target Cuba, numerous articles for
professional military journals. He is prominently
featured in the book Horse Soldiers, written
by Pulitzer Prize winner, Doug Stanton.
